Letter is from Banta Singh of Punjab to Mr. Bill Gates of Microsoft

Subject: Problems with my new computer

Dear Mr. Bill Gates,

We have bought a computer for our home and we have found some
problems,  which I want to bring to your notice.

1. There is a button ‘start‘ but there is no ‘stop‘ button. We request you to check this.

2. We find there is ‘Run‘ in the menu. One of my friends clicked ‘run’   he ran up to Amritsar ! So, we request you to change that to ‘sit‘, so that we can click that by sitting.

3. One doubt is whether any ‘re-scooter‘ is available in system? I
find    only ‘re-cycle‘, but I own a scooter at my home.

4. There is ‘Find‘ button but it is not working properly. My wife lost the door key and we tried a lot trace the key with this ‘ find’
button,  but was unable to trace. Please rectify this problem.

5. My child learnt ‘Microsoft word‘ now he wants to learn ‘Microsoft sentence‘, so when you will provide that?

6. I brought computer, CPU, mouse and keyboard, but there is only one icon which shows ‘MY Computer’: when you will provide the remaining items?

7. It is surprising that windows says ‘MY Pictures’ but there is not even a single photo of mine. So when will you keep my photo in that.

8. There is ‘MICROSOFT OFFICE’ what about ‘MICROSOFT HOME’ since I use the PC at home only.

9. You provided ‘My Recent Documents’. When you will provide ‘My Past Documents’?

10. You provide ‘My Network Places’. For God shake please do not
provide   ‘My Secret Places’. I do not want to let my wife know where I go after my  office hours.

Regards,

Banta

Last one from me to Mr Bill Gates :

Sir, how is it that your name is Gates but u are selling WINDOWS?

What do BTW, FAQ, FYI, IMHO, RTFM, and other acronyms mean?

These are all abbreviations for specific phrases commonly used in informal written computer correspondence, online forums and boards, and online gaming. Following are some common acronyms and their meanings:

AFAIC As far as I’m concerned
AFAIK As far as I know
AFK Away from keyboard
BRB Be right back
BTDT Been there, done that
BTW By the way
BUAG Butt-ugly ASCII graphic
C/C Comments and criticism
EOM End of message
FAQ Frequently Asked Question. When people say “the FAQ”, they are generally referring to a list of answers to Frequently Asked Questions. These are posted monthly on many newsgroups or mailing lists to reduce discussion of topics that have already been thoroughly covered. It’s a good idea to look at a FAQ file for a newsgroup or mailing list before participating in it. For help in finding FAQ files, see Where can I find a repository of Usenet FAQ files? A large list of all known FAQ postings in newsgroups is also posted periodically in the Usenet newsgroup news.admin.
FTFY Fixed that for you; often accompanied by a correction
FTW For the win
FWIW For what it’s worth
FYI For your information
GUI Graphical user interface
HTH Hope this helps
IANAL I am not a lawyer
IIRC If I recall correctly
IMHO In my humble opinion
IMNSHO In my not so humble opinion
IMO In my opinion
IOW In other words
l33t or 1337 From “elite”. This has become a term used to describe the informal communication of Internet gaming. L33t speak is easily identified by the substitution of number and other characters for regular letters; e.g., hackers becomes h4XX0rz.
LFG Looking for group, usually used in MMORPGs
LMAO Laughing my butt off
LOL Laughing out loud
MMORPG Massive, multiplayer, online role-playing game, such as World of Warcraft or Star Wars Galaxies
MOTAS Member of the appropriate sex
MOTOS Member of the opposite sex
MOTSS Member of the same sex
NG Newsgroup
n00b From “newbie”, meaning a newcomer not yet familiar with the rules
NT No text; usually in the subject line of a message with no body
OMG Oh my God
OTOH On the other hand
PWN Usage of the term “own”, as in “I PWNed you!”
QQ Cry more, noob (representation of eyes crying, often found in MMORPGs)
RL Real Life, as opposed to the Internet
ROFL Rolling on the floor laughing
ROFLMAO Rolling on the floor laughing my butt off
RTFM Read The Fine Manual. This may be interpreted as: “You have asked a question which would best be answered by consulting the manual (or FAQ, or other help files), a copy of which should be in your possession. The question you have asked is clearly answered in the manual and you are wasting time asking people to read it to you.” It’s good netiquette to mail this type of answer to another user rather than post it in public messages.
SO Significant other, used to refer to someone’s romantic partner without making any assumptions about gender or legal status
TLA Three letter acronym
TTFN Ta ta for now
TTYL Talk to you later

Webcam in Ubuntu

i dont know why all this while im not using webcam in linux until last week i try to plug the webcam in my ubuntu. It appear great result because the webcam driver detected by need to do something more to make its working better … now lets start by checking the device detected ..

fenris@thinkbuntu:~$ lsusb
Bus 007 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 006 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0483:2016 SGS Thomson Microelectronics Fingerprint Reader
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0a5c:2110 Broadcom Corp.
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 0ac8:301b Z-Star Microelectronics Corp. ZC0301 WebCam
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 005 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 004 Device 002: ID 17ef:1003
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 0000:0000

With this information we can know the Vendor_id=0ac8 and the Product_id=301b . We could also see this using the graphical user interfase usbview. Another thing that we can see is the manufacturer of the chipset Z-Star/Vimicro (that is also used in many other cheap webcams) Among the output of the usbview program, we can see somthing like this Manufacturer: Vimicro Corp.

I’m going to summarize the steps I took:

1) Download and untar the file gspcav120071224.tar.gz:
wget -c http://mxhaard.free.fr/spca50x/Download/gspcav1-20071224.tar.gz

tar xvfz gspcav120071224.tar.gz

2) Compile and install the driver:

cd gspcav1-20071224

make clean
make

sudo make install

3) This is the extra step that I had to do:

sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/options

and add an option for this driver:

options gspca force_rgb=1

sudo apt-get install camorama

then try to open camorama, if cant open the application, try this:

$sudo lsmod |grep gspca
gspca 660176 0
videodev 28160 2 gspca,zc0301
usbcore 134280 7 gspca,zc0301,usb_storage,libusual,ehci_hcd,uhci_hcd

Remove the zc0301 module:

$sudo modprobe -r zc0301

Insert module gspca back:

$ sudo modprobe gspca

Give a check first:

$ lsmod |grep gspca
gspca 660176 0
videodev 28160 1 gspca
usbcore 134280 6 gspca,usb_storage,libusual,ehci_hcd,uhci_hcd

Let it be more confident:

$ lsmod | grep videodev
videodev 28160 1 gspca
v4l1_compat 15236 1 videodev
v4l2_common 25216 1 videodev

If it still can’t run the camorama :

check the device permission:

$ ls -l /dev/video0
crw-rw—- 1 root video 81, 0 2008-01-27 08:10 /dev/video0

Device video0 running with user group video,so u should change the permission:

$ sudo chmod 777 /dev/video0
$ ls -l /dev/video0
crwxrwxrwx 1 root video 81, 0 2008-01-27 08:10 /dev/video0

@ the easier way is installing the gspca from repo (i forgot to check in repo, gspca is in it):

fenris@thinkbuntu:~$ sudo apt-get install gspca-sourceHope it working for u all because its working for me!!
Gud Luck!!

Camorama in Action!!Camorama in Action - Close up!!

“Access is Denied” Error Message When You Try to Open a Folder

What a fakap morning day i got this error!!!

SYMPTOMS

When you try to open a folder in Microsoft Windows XP, you may receive the following error message, where Folder is the name of the folder that you cannot open:

Folder is not accessible. Access is denied.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the folder that you cannot open was created on an NTFS file system volume by using a previous installation of Windows, and then installing Windows XP. This issue may occur although you enter the correct user name and password. This issue occurs because the security ID for the user has changed. Although you use the same user name and password, your security ID no longer matches the security ID of the owner of the folder that you cannot open.

For example, although you use the same user name and password, you may no longer have permission to open the folder after you complete the following steps:

1. Before you install Windows XP Professional, you change the actual location, or target location, of the My Documents folder to another volume.
2. You format the primary partition.
3. You install Windows XP Professional

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, you must turn off Simple File Sharing, and then take ownership of the folder:

1. Turn off Simple File Sharing:

a. Click Start, and then click My Computer.
b. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options, and then click the View tab.
c. Under Advanced Settings, click to clear the Use simple file sharing (Recommended) check box, and then click OK.
2. Right-click the folder that you want to take ownership of, and then click Properties.
3. Click the Security tab, and then click OK on the Security message, if one appears.
4. Click Advanced, and then click the Owner tab.
5. In the Name list, click your user name, Administrator if you are logged in as Administrator, or click the Administrators group.
If you want to take ownership of the contents of that folder, click to select the Replace owner on subcontainers and objects check box.
6. Click OK.You may receive the following error message, where Folder is the name of the folder that you want to take ownership of:

You do not have permission to read the contents of directory Folder. Do you want to replace the directory permissions with permissions granting you Full Control? All permissions will be replaced if you press Yes.

7. Click Yes.
8. Click OK, and then reapply the permissions and security settings that you want for the folder and the folder contents.
